Update on New Opportunities Fund ICT Training for Public Library Staff
Included in the New Opportunities Fund (NOF) inititatives is £20m to provide
training for public library staff in the effective use of Information and
Communications Technology (ICT). NOF has sent application forms to all
eligible Library Services inviting them to detail their training
requirements for 1999/2000 to 2002/2003.
There is provision within the forms for training for Archive/Local History
Services where these are part of the wider library service.
The timetable for the programme is as follows:
15th September 1999: Submissions of LIB1 pro-forma by Library Services
November 1999: Library Services informed of allocations by NOF
February 2000: Submissions of LIB2 pro-forma by Library Services
April 2000: Library Services begin training programmes
Sept 2000 - Sept 2003: Library Services receive payments from NOF
This funding programme is seen by NOF as start-up money and applicants are
expected to build provision for continuing training into there budgets
thereafter.
Funding will not cover staff release costs for those on training, nor money
that has already been spent or committed. Library Services will be required
to demonstrate that they have an IT strategy and clear training plans in
place. Funding is available only for approved training providers.
NOF have developed a set of Expected Outcomes which Library Services will be
expected to meet.
