The Media Archive of Central England Trust Ltd. has decided to proceed with
the appointment of a Director to bring about the establishment of a
regional film archive for the Midlands, the last major area of the country
to lack such a facility. The post will also be advertised in the national
and professional press, but I thought list members might welcome an early
sight of the advertisement, which follows:
Media Archive of Central England Trust Ltd.

£23,895-27,999 (PO3/4)
Initially offered as a fixed term contract until 31 December 2001.
MACE exists to create a permanent moving image archive for the East and
West Midlands. The Trustees wish to appoint a Director who can realise
this concept by developing policy, preparing a business plan, securing
funding, establishing relationships with partners and users within and
beyond the region, developing a public profile and acquiring collections.
The post requires an exceptional combination of film archiving expertise
and management ability, and offers the opportunity to shape a major new
archive service. It will be based in Birmingham, but will involve
extensive travel in and beyond the Midlands.
The post is initially funded by MACE in partnership with Birmingham City
Council, the BFI, East Midlands Arts, Leicester City Council and West
Midlands Arts.
For an informal discussion of the post contact Laurie Upshon, Chairman of
MACE (0121 643 9898). For an application form and further details
telephone 0121 233 4253. Closing date: 17 September 1999.
