I don't remember seeing this issue discussed previously on the list, but
please forgive me if it has!
I would be interested to know what policies different repositories may have
developed on the question of giving permission to those who want to use
images from their collections on web sites. Normal copyright considerations
apply, of course, but beyond that, if the image is out of copyright, or if
copyright belongs to the repository, would you
a) grant permission unconditionally?
b) grant permission for a limited period? (how would you monitor this?)
c) grant permission only if downloading of the image resulted in an unusable
image?
d) refuse permission?
e) any other response?
Replies on or off list would be welcomed.
