NATIONAL PRESERVATION OFFICE
ANNUAL SEMINAR
TRAINING FOR PRESERVATION MANAGEMENT
26th October 1999
Conference Centre, British Library
96 Euston Road
London NW1 2DB
The aim of this seminar is to assess the provision of preservation
management training in the UK and Ireland, focusing in particular on
three aspects: subjects and content taught; the level to which the
subject is taught, and gaps in existing teaching provision. The
seminar will bring together senior professionals in education and in
preservation. Participants will identify recommendations for action by
the National Preservation Office in facilitating preservation
management training, in particular the development of programmes where
there is an identified need at the national level.
Speakers will describe and evaluate the national training picture;
preservation management for archivists; preservation management for
librarians; the role of library and archive schools and a review of
initiatives in the museums sector. Part of the day will be spent in
smaller discussion groups to consider institutional practice,
Continuing Professional Development and professional bodies' practice.
Cost, including lunch: £65 inclusive of VAT.
