Dear All
For the past few months I have been sitting on the BSI Data Protection
Committee representing Society of Archivists. The BSI are now asking
whether the Committee can gain a consensus of opinion on the marketing of
the data protection guidelines. I would therefore be most grateful if you
could Email me on [log in to unmask] with your views on the questions
below.
Thankyou

Subject: Marketing - Key points

To Data Protection group
I have been discussing the Guide with the DISC Marketing Manager, and
while considering promoting the guide we have been looking at the impact of
the 1998 Act on businesses. This will help us target the right groups, and
ensure we have identified the key issues that will affect them. The
following questions came up and I gave him my thoughts but would be
grateful for your responses as well:
How will the Act affect you?
What are the key points in the 1998 Act that will most affect SME's and
organizations?
Why do SMEs/organizations etc need to worry about the Act (and data
protection generally)?
What aspects will cause problems in future, if they ignore it?
What other factors affect businesses approach to Data Protection (e.g.
increased use of internet, e-commerce etc).
In addition, can you give me suggestions for Journals that we should
target, and target audiences and career professions to contact.
I'm not looking for a detailed response, just your own reaction to the
above questions. Any comments or thoughts you have will ensure that our
promotion of the Guide is more effective.
Regards
Bernadette Shine
