Appointment initially until 30 September 2002
Birmingham City Archives is a rapidly developing service, providing a
comprehensive range of professional services to the second city. Our very
large collections include material of international significance in several
fields, dating from c1139 onwards, and we have been outstandingly
successful in obtaining external funding for development work recently.
We now require a committed, talented and versatile archivist to join our
Public Services Team. The appointee will undertake a wide range of
professional tasks, including cataloguing, searchroom supervision and
enquiry work, and will work closely with the Head of Photography on the
acquisition and cataloguing of photographic collections. Cataloguing work
will be undertaken using the IMPReS collection management system.
This post is a good opportunity for a recently qualified archivist to gain
wide ranging experience of local authority archive work. Candidates should
possess a good honours degree, a diploma or masters degree in archives
administration, and preferably will have worked with the public and have
some cataloguing experience. Effective communication and teamworking
skills will, however, be more important than professional experience.
Application forms and further details are available by telephoning 0121 303
4253.
Closing date: 17 September 1999
