I'm not sure this discussion is getting anywhere. I don't believe
putting letters after our names will help to raise the profile or prestige
of the profession. Actions speak louder than letters.
In my experience, telling people (especially banks and other
official bodies over the phone) that you are an archivist either results in
blank incomprehension or a request to spell the word. Tired of this, I
occasionally resort to 'civil servant'. Aren't we focusing on the wrong
issue here?
