It is with great regret that I have to inform you that John Thackray,
Archivist at The Natural History Museum, last night passed away. After his
fight against cancer had initially gone well, unfortunately things took a
serious turn for the worse last week and last night John passed peacefully
away. John's love of his work was shown through to the end and as late as
last week he was working on matters to do with the Archives at home and
came in on one occassion to chair his first meeting of the Society for the
History of Natural History of which he was very proud to have recently been
made President. Those of us fortunate to
have worked with John will all I am sure share in the loss of someone who
helped, touched and was so kind to so many of us.
Details of the funeral and other arrangements will be circulated later.
