Hello there David!
Sorry, sorry, sorry.... of course you can have the pics - i tried to speak
to you on the phone quite awhile back about the dezincification photo from
the Metal95 paper, but kept missing you, and then the dust just began to
gather...
Anyway, do you mind having the same image? I didn't take a series of that,
nor have I looked at that issue again...
I can only find one copy of it, as I lost a lot of photos in a house flood 2
years ago...
So, I've go the other images you asked for sitting on a shelf - I'll blow
off the dust and get them off to you by the end of next week hopefully.
Are you coming over here this summer? (I haven't looked at Jim's
schedual...) Can you spare the time to visit the foundry? Might be a good
day out for the whole family...
Hope you're all well and enjoying the summer!
We're doing OK, but struggling with time & economics... Damian working 2 and
a half days per week at MoL + a bit of freelance... i'm coming up to end of
2 years of self-employment - i love it, but cash flow not great.
Fran & Andrew & I are hoping to get our Atlas of technical features on
bronzes off the ground... one day... (we're hoping you might be able to
contribute a 'window'/chapter...)
I'm starting to use a multivariate database (microsoft access) for my
conservation records... I'm trying to characterise corrosion products as
cleaning (eg. colour, hardness, bubbly, wart, pit, etc) - also routinely
saving cleaned off products (but not all my clients want to keep the
samples!). The database also holds info on archaeological context (eg. road,
floor, pit; and basic soil description). other sections deal with info from
X-ray and any other analyses which may be done.
it's early days, and the system needs tweeking, but i've been showing it
around, and a few conservators are interested in using it themselves... i'm
looking for funding to get it published/more widely available... i'd love
to know what you think about it, i'll send you some screen dumps from it,
and maybe a copy on disc...
Best wishes XXDana
