BACKGROUND AND DETAILS

The Asian Institute of Technology

The Asian Institute of Technology is an autonomous, international
postgraduate technological institute located in Bangkok, Thailand.
Some outreach activities take place in Vietnam. Established in 1959,
the Institute was chartered in 1967 as an independent and non-profit
making educational institution by special legislation of the Royal
Thai Government.
AIT provides advanced education in engineering, science and allied
fields through academic programs leading to the awards of Doctoral
and Master's degrees and Diplomas; research programs conducted by
faculty and students or in collaboration with other institutions
in Asia and abroad; and special programs aimed at professional
development beyond the traditional period of formal education.
An international community of teaching faculty and research staff,
representing some 25 nationalities, fosters the exchange and
dissemination of advanced technological knowledge and expertise
at the Institute. Yearly, AIT teaches about 1,000 students from
25 Asian countries and some from outside the region.

Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM)

AARM is both a field of study and currently program in the School of
Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD) at the Asian Institute
of Technology (AIT). Launched in 1981, AARM promotes development through
aquaculture and management of aquatic resources. AARM has a wide
spectrum of activities in education, training, research, and outreach
which enables it to address constraints facing the promotion of
sustainable aquaculture. The central theme is capacity building:
strengthening both the human capital and facilities of individuals
and institutions. This leads to the creation of an indigenous capacity
for education, research, and development within Southeast Asia.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship

The postdoctoral fellowship awarded to AIT is funded by the Thai
National Science and Technology Development Agency
(NSTDA). The fellowship will be for two years subject to an
annual review. Salary rates will be within the framework of
local post-doctoral scales at AIT, initially within the confines
of the maximum fellowship granted by NSTDA (likely range will
be Thai Baht equivalent of US$13,500-14,500). The work under
the fellowship should concentrate on issues relevant to Thailand.
