Subject: Genetic improvement of rainbow trout in Iran
Colleagues,
The Islamic Republic of Iran, in efforts to follow-up on recommendations
made by Dr Krishen Rana and me, is looking for a consultant to help draft a
project proposal for the genetic improvement and broodstock management of
rainbow trout. Previously, Iran had imported most of its eggs from Scotland
and Norway, but now wishes to establish its own lines. It is expected that
the consultant (or consultants) would spend between 2 - 4 weeks in Iran and
submit the completed proposal to the Iranian Fisheries Company (also known
as Shilat). There is also scope for FAO involvement in facilitating
finalization of the proposal and implementation of the project.
The consultant should be knowledgeable on quantitative genetics and breeding
of rainbow trout. Additionally, the consultant should be able to
communicate complex ideas in clear and simple English. Knowledge of Persian
would be ideal, but not required. The Shilat requests the consultant for the
month of October, 1999. However, it may be difficult to meet this time
schedule.
Please respond directly to me if you are interested in this project.
