Post-Doctoral Scientist Vacancy
Vertebrate Embryo Development
Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology
What are the first genes to be expressed in a vertebrate embryo?
What are the molecular players in the first cell movements in an embryo?
At the midblastula transition the zygotic genome is activated, coinciding
with the formation of the enveloping layer, the first epithelial layer.
Our aim is to elucidate the first cellular, molecular and genetic events
occurring at this stage of vertebrate development.
We use the zebrafish as a model vertebrate species for our studies.
Keywords: developmental biology, gene expression, signalling,
confocal microscopy, cell biology, zebrafish
Suitable candidates will have (or expect to obtain) a Ph.D. in life
sciences. Experience in either molecular genetics or cell biology is
necessary. This is part of a two-year Enterprise Ireland Basic Programme
funded project, starting in September, 1999. Salary will be IEP19,000 to
IEP22,000 per annum.
