YOUNG STATISTICIANS' MEETING 1999
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25-26th March, University of Bristol
The Young Statisticians' Meeting is an annual day-long event that
will next be held at the University of Bristol on the 25th and
26th of March 1999. There are usually around 120 participants,
comprising research students in the latter stages of their PhD's
(or other research qualifications) and young statisticians (in
the first 5 years of their careers) in either academic, business
or industrial institutions.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for participants
to exchange research ideas both formally through oral and poster
presentations and informally over lunch, dinner and the evening
reception. In particular, the meeting is intended to foster a
greater interaction between academic and professional
statisticians.
The conference is arranged as a series of plenary and parallel
sessions, with a wine-reception and poster session in the
evening, where there will be an opportunity to meet some of the
sponsors. The themes of individual sessions will not be
formalised until the end of the year, but previous meetings have
included sessions on environmental statistics, medical and
pharmaceutical statistics, theoretical statistics, statistical
computation, engineering statistics and quality control, and
financial stochastic modelling, amongst others.
Registration will start at 11:00am on Thursday 25th March, and
the opening session will begin at 12:00 noon. The conference will
close at midday on Friday 26th March. The cost of the meeting is
50 pounds. This includes lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, wine
reception, breakfast, morning coffee, accommodation for the night
of 25th March, and the conference registration fee.
