PhD Studentship at NORSK REGNESENTRAL, Oslo
Norsk Regnesentral (NR, the Norwegian Computing Center) is a research
institute with expertise in the field of statistics and mathematical
modelling. It employs around 30 statisticians on a wide range of applied
and research projects in both the public and private sectors.
We offer a three year PhD grant linked to our research project
Knowledge, Data and Decision - Modern Statistics in Action
This is a strategic institute project funded by The Research Council of
Norway and running until 2002. The aim of the project is to strengthen
competence in statistics through innovative research at international
level in selected areas of methodological and applied statistics. In
particular the PhD is expected to contribute to the areas of advanced
stochastic modelling, simulation based inference and decision, and
modern time series analysis. It might address applications within
natural resources and environment, public decision making and industrial
production, among others.
Oslo is a very attractive city with a good cultural life and great
opportunities for outdoor activities. English is very widely spoken. The
cost of living is relatively high, but the grant is currently around NOK
240,000 per year (approx GBP 19,000).
NR is a member node of the European Programme on Spatial and
Computational Statistics.
The candidate will work at NR in Oslo and her/his PhD will be awarded by
the Department of Mathematics of the University of Oslo.
