HONORARY LECTURER IN HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH
Fixed term contract for three years in the first instance.
SMP 26-22 : #20,300 - #23,805 per annum (plus #3,100 Geographical
allowance). A higher salary may be available for highly experienced
candidates.
Secondments will be considered for suitable candidates.
UCLH Trust's R&D strategy is committed to aligning local, national and
regional priorities and improving research and clinical practice at the
primary-secondary care interface. To enable a shift towards
multi-disciplinary and health services research, a need to develop critical
appraisal skills and research methods training for nurses and the
professions allied to medicine has been identified. The initial task of the
holder of this new post will be to develop a strategy to achieve this. The
post will be based in UCLH Trust's Research & Development Directorate.
The Research & Development Directorate has an active research programme in
the areas of primary care, chronic disease management, prescribing, cancer
epidemiology, the use of health-related information, and health policy. The
successful candidate will have an opportunity to take part in this research
and will also be encouraged to set up their own research projects in
collaboration with nurses and PAMs. The Research & Development Directorate
has a good publication record and the successful candidate will also be
encouraged to publish their research in peer-reviewed journals.
Candidates should good communication skills and some previous experience of
teaching, and ideally a background in either nursing or PAMs research,
health services research, sociology, or medical statistics. They should also
have a good understanding of research methods and a working knowledge of a
statistical package such as Stata, SPSS or SAS. They will need to be able to
integrate their work with initiatives being led by other professional groups
such as the nurses, PAMs, Personnel and the librarians. This will involve
formation of a steering group, Trust-wide presentation of the strategy, and
establishment of appropriate training courses. The successful applicant will
also hold an honorary lecturer position at University College London.
