Salary will be on the Lecturer A scale £16, 655 - £21, 815
This position is available for an initial term of three years, with a
starting date negotiable between 1 October 1999 and 1 April 2000.
Applicants should have a developing record of research in either
spatial statistics or longitudinal data analysis, and show a
commitment to collaborative research involving the development
and application of innovative statistical methods. Previous
experience of working with large-scale studies, and /or of the Splus
computing environment, are desirable but not essential.
The appointee would be expected to take a leading role in at least
one of the following collaborative research projects, including
supervision of a PhD student:
Veterinary Epidemiology: spatio-temporal modelling of the spread
of bacteria amongst dairy farms in Cheshire.
Disease surveillance: development of models for the spatio-
temporal distribution of enteric infections in the Wessex region.
Performance indicators of diabetes care: using longitudinal data
from Diabetic Registers in all districts of the North West region.
The Medical Statistics Unit is one of three sections of the
Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Together with the
Statistics Section in the same department it forms one of the
strongest statistical research groups in the UK, with 11 academic
staff and about 20 research staff and students. Further details can
