RESEARCH GRANTS FOR SOCIAL SCIENTISTS

Funds of the European Union, under the programme for Training and Mobility of Researchers, are available for supporting access the Large-Scale Facility for the social sciences at the Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD).

WHAT NSD HAS TO OFFER
NSD is located at the University of Bergen, Norway, and is a resource and competence centre for the research community. NSD is one of the largest data archives in the world. NSD provides data and assists researchers with respect to data gathering, integration and management, questionnaire design, selection of software tools, data analysis, methodology and privacy issues. The data holdings, as well as the educational and intellectual background of the staff cover all major fields and disciplines of the social sciences. Visiting researchers will have free use of the facility, with access to all data resources and expertise currently available at NSD.

DATA RESOURCES
NSD offers a variety of data sources, such as large databases with regional and historical data for Europe, the Nordic countries and Norway, census microdata, economic data and data on political elites, political parties and institutions. NSD also holds all the major international survey collections; the Eurobarometer, the International Social Survey Programme, World Values Surveys and international election studies. NSD has extensive expertise in development of large integrated databases and in collection and (geo)graphical representation of aggregate economic, social and political data.

ELIGIBILITY
All researchers from the EU member states and the Associated States Iceland, Liechtenstein and Israel, wanting to do comparative and non-proprietary research, may apply for funding.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Financial support is given to cover international travel and subsistence. Researchers may apply for a period up to four weeks.

APPLICATION
Applications can be made at any time, and will be selected by an independent peer review procedure.
