Dr Durbin is the head of the Informatics Division at the Sanger Centre,
which provides systems and software support for sequencing and mapping
operations, as well as groups working on sequence analysis and annotation.

The projects in which he is involved include the C.elegans sequencing
project, the ACEDB genome database (in collaboration with Jean
Thierry-Mieg ) and the Pfam database of protein domain families.
Some of Dr Durbin's interests in theoretical aspects of sequence analysis
are covered in the book on "Biological Sequence Analysis" written with
Sean Eddy, Anders Krogh and Graeme Mitchison, which was published in April
1998 by Cambridge University Press.
