A few places are still available on the following course:
SURVIVAL ANALYSIS in S-PLUS Presented by Dr Terry Therneau
Cityside, London, 27-28 April 1999. (Two-day course)
In the last few years the survival analysis software available in several of
the standard statistical packages has experienced a major increment in
functionality, and is no longer limited to the triad of Kaplan-Meier curves,
logrank tests, and simple Cox models.
This course will attempt to give an overview of modern survival analysis
methods using the S-PLUS package. Approximately equal time will be spent on
each of the major sections below, with 1/3 - 1/2 of each section devoted to
actual data examples. The written materials will go into considerably more
detail on several of the topics, and also include SAS code for many of the
examples, particularly those dealing with extension of the Cox model.
Dr. Terry Therneau is currently head of the Section of Biostatistics at the
Mayo Clinic. He has worked in medical research statistics for over 15 years,
largely in areas where survival analysis plays a fundamental role. He has
written several papers on the use of residuals in the Cox model, and made
numerous presentations at ASA, ENAR and Interface meetings. He is the author
of the survival routines found in S-PLUS, as well as the SAS procedures
Coxreg and Survtest which were distributed for many years as part of the SAS
Supplimental Library.
Topics include: Introduction to survival analysis, estimating the survival
curve, parametric models, counting process formulation and residuals of Cox
model, estimation of functional form, time-dependent coefficient models,
leverage, multiple events, expected survival, frailty models. For more
details see http://www.mathsoft.co.uk/s-plus/main/2704.htm.
The course costs GBP795 (+VAT) (or GBP495+VAT for academic delegates). To
