Is it Fraud or is it Flawed?
STEPHEN EVANS (Medicines Control Agency)
On Tuesday 19th January 1999, 6:00pm in Lindop Building (room to be
advised), University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield Campus. (Tea from 5:30pm)
ALL WELCOME
Synopsis: Fraud and scientific misconduct have probably existed for as long
as science. It is possible that it is becoming more prevalent, and
statisticians need to be aware of the possibility that "data" have been
"given". Statistical methods can be used to detect fraud and examples of
approaches to detection will be given. Personal experience of an
investigation in medical research fabricating and falsifying data will be
discussed.
