Vacancy for a Statistician
Product Support: Statistics Group
MediSense is part of Abbott Laboratories and we are pioneers and leaders in
biosensor technology. One of the world,s major providers of blood glucose
monitoring systms, our diagnostic kits allow fast, accurate, self-testing for
diabetics.
The Statistician will join a group providing general statistical support and
advice company-wide covering Research & Development and Manufacturing.
Application areas include procedures for calibration, product release and
performance monitoring, and the characterisation, development, optimisation
and validation of products and processes. The group,s work includes
statistical investigations and reviews using databased information, analysis
of experimental data, development of methods for routine analysis, and
supervision of local data processing.
An interest in and ability to apply practical statistical methods in a
commercial industrial environment is as important as a sound grounding of
statistical knowledge. Good communication skills are also vital, including
the ability to write coherent reports and recommendations for non-statistical
readers.
A good understanding of regression analysis, analysis of variance, and
general statistical inference is essential. Familiarity with the computer
package SAS would be a great advantage. Knowledge of experimental design,
sampling principles and quality control/SPC methods would also be very
useful.
You will need to be responsive to the needs of the scientists and managers
with whom you will work and should be prepared to be flexible in a fast
changing environment as the company expands.
Educated to B.Sc. level (or equivalent) in a numerate subject, you should
have at least one year,s practical statistical experience.
Salary will be competitive, starting in the range £17,000-£23,000 depending
on experience.
