BBSRC STUDENTSHIP IN BIOMATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS
Applications are invited for a BBSRC quota studentship which BioSS
(Biomathematics & Statistics Scotland) holds for a PhD commencing in
October 1999. BioSS has an international reputation in mathematics and
statistics applied in the biological sciences. Possible projects
include:
o Bayesian approaches to decision making in agriculture
o Object shape and brightness comparison using wavelets
o Interpolation of coarsely pixellated images
o Mathematical and statistical process-based modelling of visual perception
o Decision making in a plant breeding programme
o Fitting the design to the model - Repeated measures with non-linear
response function
o Constrained deconvolution for recovery of object surfaces in microscopy

Applicants should be UK residents and have, or shortly expect to obtain,
a first or upper second class degree in mathematics, statistics,
mathematical biology, or a related subject. Awards include a
maintenance allowance of 8000 pounds per year. (Other EU nationals are
eligible to apply for a fees-only award)
