The Royal is the largest bank in Scotland, and the 7th largest in the

The Bank is seeking applicants to join its Retail Lending Systems
department, which controls the automated credit decision processes for
all personal and small business customers of the Bank. This includes
- the initial decision on whether or not to allow borrowing of a loan,
mortgage or overdraft;
- ongoing evaluation of the performance of accounts for the purposes
of extending credit facilities;
- identification of signals indicating that problems are developing
which
may impact upon the customer's ability to repay outstanding debts.
This is achieved by means of credit scoring, behaviour scoring and
automated decision-making systems based on modelling customer
relationships and account performance. The department's role is central
to achieving the vital balance between risk and reward which ensures
continuing success for the Bank, and this has been recognised in the
rapid growth of Retail Lending Systems over recent years to over 30
staff. Successful applicants will enjoy the satisfaction of

The positions we are seeking to fill require an understanding of
advanced statistical techniques and an aptitude in using mainframe
statistical packages to manipulate and analyse large datasets. SAS is
the main package used, and the department embraces new advances
and techniques in its analysis. Successful applicants will also be
expected to make effective use of Microsoft Office products, such as
Excel, Powerpoint and Word, and to present results of analyses to
senior management.
The roles will involve implementing decision-making systems in the
branch network which will require new employees to quickly gain an
understanding of branch practices, culture and commercial awareness.
Training will be on offer, including short secondments to other areas
of the Bank if required.
Retail Lending Systems is based in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city,
with a skyline dominated by its 7th century Castle. Rich in history and
culture, Edinburgh houses many museums, galleries and historic
buildings, with a variety of parks and gardens. The city offers a wide
