Job opening for a statistician in Kiel/Germany
The mucosal immunogenetics research group at Christian-Albrechts-University
Kiel/Germany is seeking applications for an open position in statistics /
genetic epidemiology. Public funding for up to 5 years is provided through
a German nationwide network programm which supports a molecular genetic
and bioinformatics core facility for genetic etiology research in Kiel,
where the entire network is coordinated.
The group is generating a wealth of molecular, genetic and epidemiological
data, that offers an attractive field for statistical analyses.
The postholder will be involved in
* the design and analysis of epidemiological data from the nationwide
study,
* data analysis from the genetic studies to identify genes for
inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. Am J Hum Genet 1999, 64: 808-816,
Bioinformatics 1998, 14, 458-464), and
* the analysis of microarray expression data (in cooperation with the
Lehrach group in Berlin).
The applicant will work in an active molecular group investigating the
genetic basis and pathophysiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The
group is English-speaking with scientists from Germany, England, Ireland
and Italy. Technical computer and software support is provided by two
professionals.
Major relevant cooperation partners are MPI for Molecular Genetics (Lehrach
group) for microarray expression analyses, and Division of Medical and
Molecular Genetics, Guy's Hospital (Prof. Mathew) for gene finding in IBD.
Salary (depending on qualifications) 60.000 - 120.000 DM /year (approx.
22.000 - 42.000 pounds) for up to 5 years.
The applicant's qualifications should include a degree in statistics,
public health research, or an allied field, but applicants from the
biological sciences would also be considered.
The applicant should have an interest in independent and creative
statistical research. Experience in computer programming would be beneficial.
