Hello,
I am returning to the field of mathematics after several years of being
away.
I work for a computer manufacturer and I have been presented with a problem
that we believe statistics would help with.
We have 934 various memory module combinations. And need to be confidence
that they will work in the computers that we have in the field.
The engineers would like to be able to say that they are 95% confident that
the memory modules would work.
I have found a calculation for Confidence (average of sample plus or minus
the confidence level multiplied by the standard deviation divided by the
square of the sample size)
Unfortunately we do not know where to start. How large should our sample
be?
The test that we will perform is a pass/fail if all sampled are pass how to
we calculate the standard deviation. (the calculation I did on a test of all
pass had a standard deviation of 0), if our standard deviation is 0 how do
we calculate the confidence interval?
Any help would be great
thanks
heather
