Second Announcement
General Information and Programme.
The Third Scandinavian-Ukrainian Conference in Probability and
Statistics will take place in Kyiv from 8 June to 12 June 1999.
Participation in the conference is open to statisticians from all
countries.
It is organized under the auspices of the Kyiv University and the
National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The programme covers Statistics, Probability, Stochastic Processes in
its wide sense as the scientific area of probability, stochastic
processes, statistical inference, and applications based on stochastic
models. It consists of memorial, invited and contributed lectures.

Contributed Lectures.
All participants are invited to give a contributed lecture. The duration
of contributed lectures will be 20-30 minutes including discussion.
Special Sessions.
The programme of the conference will include the special session on
Stochastic and Mathematical Physics. The Scientific Programme Committee
makes a special call for papers related to this area. Additional

The Scientific Programme Committee will organize additional sessions
devoted to various applications of statistics and calls upon
statisticians working with applications and teaching of statistics to
take part in the conference.
During the conference the 50-th anniversary of Department of the Theory
of Probability and Mathematical Statistics of Kyiv University will be
celebrated. All alumni and friends are welcome.
The Second International School on Actuarial and Financial Mathematics
supported by the Tacis-Tempus JEP-10353-97 will be organized as the
Satellite Meeting to the Conference.
The programme covers: mathematical models in finance and insurance; time
series in economics, finance and insurance; analytical, simulation and
statistical methods in the risk theory; mathematical methods in life and
non-life insurance; mathematical models in micro- and macroeconomics and
the teaching methodology of the financial mathematics and actuarial
mathematics and related subjects.

Location and Schedule.
The venue of the Conference and the School will be the Kyiv University
and the Institute of Mathematics, which are located in centre of Kyiv.
The Conference and the School will start on Tuesday, 8 June.
Participants are expected to arrive at Kyiv on Monday, 7 June.
On Monday, 7 June will be organized a walking excursion.
The first plenary meeting of the Conference will be held on Tuesday, 8
June at 9.00. The last plenary meeting of the Conference will be held on
Saturday, 12 June.
The joint secretariat of the Conference and the School will be located
in the Institute of Mathematics, and it will be open from 8.00 to 18.00
every day from Monday, 7 June to Saturday, 12 June. The address of the
institute is: Tereshchenkivs'ka street, 3.
A registration desk will be open in the Institute of Mathematics
building on Monday, 7 June from 12.00 till 20.00 and on Tuesday, 8 June
from 8.00 till 17.00. On Wednesday, 9 June and later the registration
can be made in the secretariat of the Conference and the School.
A volume of Abstracts and the Programme of the Conference and the
Programme of the School will be given to participants upon arrival. The
Programmes will be also available via home pages of the Conference and
the School.
Abstracts.
Abstracts of memorial, invited and contributed lectures should not
contain more than one page, and should be submitted before 30 April 1999
via e-mail (preferably) or via mail.
Submission via e-mail should contain the abstract prepared with the use
of the prescribed Tex Abstract Template. It should be sent to the

Submission via mail should contain a disk with a Tex file of the
abstract prepared with the use of the prescribed Tex Abstract Template.

Proceedings.
Proceedings of the Conference are planned to be published after the
Conference. The participants of the conference are invited to submit
papers. These should be sent by mail to the address given below or
submitted to the Secretary of the Scientific Programme Committee during
the conference.
Submission should contain a disk with a Tex file of the paper prepared
with the use of the prescribed Tex Paper Template and two paper copies.

Proceedings of the School containing selected papers of the invited
lecturers and other materials will be distributed to the participants of
the School after the conference.
Social Events and Meals.
The following events are included in the Conference fee for all
participants and accompanying persons:
Walking excursion in Kyiv on Monday, 7 June. The excursion will start
from the entrance to the Institute of Mathematics at 15.00.
Welcome party on Tuesday, 8 June, at 18.00.
Bus tour with a guide in Kyiv on Thursday, 10 June, at 14.00.
Refreshments will be available during the breaks between lectures and
are also included in the Conference fee.
There will be one event which is not included in the Conference fee:
Conference dinner, Thursday, 12 June, at 18.00.
Registration and Conference Fee.
To attend the Conference please fill in the Registration form and send
it to the address of the Conference and the School given bellow.
The Registration Fee is 100 US dollars for participants of the
Conference and 40 US dollars for accompanying persons. The Organizing
Committee of the Conference intends to reduce the conference fee for
participants from the former Soviet Union countries.
The Registration Fee for participants of the School is 10 US dollars.
Students and postgraduate students can attend the School free of charge.
The Registration Fees can be paid at the Registration Desks of the
Conference and the School upon arrival.

Travel, Visa, Money and Weather.
There are many flights each day to Kyiv. The airport Boryspil is located
30 km from the town centre and there is bus transportation from the
airport to the town centre with stops near the University main building.
A bus ticket from the airport costs 2$ and taxi about 20$.
An Ukrainian visa is needed. It can be obtained from the Ukrainian
Embassy.
The exchange rate of the US dollar to the Ukrainian grivna is about $1 =
4grivna.
The weather in Kyiv is usually warm and sunny in June, but rain can not
be excluded. The temperature in the afternoon ranges 20 - 28 C.
