1999 UK Stata Users Group Meeting
Notice of Meeting & Call for Contributions
=====================================================================
Dates: Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 May 1999
Venue: central London (to be confirmed)
Cost: to be confirmed
Audience: Stata users of all levels of experience and all disciplines
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The organisers of the 5th UK User Group meeting advise potential
participants of the meeting and seek contributions for presentation.
The scientific organisers of the meeting are
Stephen Jenkins <[log in to unmask]> and
Peter Sasieni <[log in to unmask]>
in conjunction with
Timberlake Consultants, the UK distributors of Stata.
Please send contribution submissions to either Stephen or Peter as soon
as possible, and by the end of February 1999 at the latest. Also get in
touch with us please if you would like to discuss the suitability of a
potential contribution. Confirmation of the programme, cost and venue,
and details of how to register will be circulated later; most likely
soon after the end of February 1999.
The meeting will most likely follow the format of previous meetings,
i.e. a mixture of longer talks and shorter talks. Examples might
include quasi-academic talks about statistical or graphical methods
centred around new ados or how particular data management and
(re)organisation problems have been solved. To get an idea of what a
typical User Group meeting is like, take a look at the programmes and
presentation abstracts of the 3rd and 4th UK meetings, available at
http://www.stata.com/support/meeting/
Bill Gould of StataCorp will be attending the meeting, together with
another member of the StataCorp development team, probably Alan Riley.
They will give a presentation. Regarding its content, Bill has pointed
out that the meeting will be occurring at the beginning of the Stata 7
development cycle. It is therefore likely that we will assign a session
on the second day for user suggestions. (There was a similar session at
Bill's last visit two years ago, and several suggestions made have
been implemented in Stata upgrades.) Bill has also generously offered
to speak on topics such as "An introduction to Stata", "Programming in
Stata", or "Survival Analysis in Stata". And Alan can talk equally well
on "Introduction to Stata" or "Programming in Stata". Potential
attenders: please indicate preferences by email to Peter Sasieni or
Stephen Jenkins.
We look forward to hearing from you about your contributions.

Peter Sasieni <[log in to unmask]>
