The University of Reading
Department of Applied Statistics
TWO PHD STUDENTSHIPS IN MEDICAL STATISTICS
Funded by the University of Reading and the MRC.
1/ University of Reading Studentship
Sequential testing for equivalence or non-inferiority
Supervisors: Sue Todd and Anne Whitehead
This project concerns the application of sequential methodology to
trials which seek to establish, either that two treatments produce the
same effect, or that a new treatment is no less efficacious than the
standard. The research will involve study of existing methods of
sequential analysis and of clinical trial conduct, the development of
new approaches to design and analysis, and the writing of computer
software for their implementation and evaluation. The topic is of
great interest to both the pharmaceutical industry and drug
regulators, and contact with statisticians involved directly with drug
development and drug licencing will be arranged. The intended
starting date is 1 October 1999.
