PhD Studentship
Two PhD Studentships are available in the Foresight Centre for Process
Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT) at the University of Newcastle.
CPACT has a number of research projects involving collaborations between
end-user chemical companies - BP Chemicals, BNF, ICI, Astra
Pharmaceuticals, Glaxo Wellcome, SmithKline Beecham, 3M, Phizer, DuPont,
Rhone Poulenc and Zeneca alongside analytical instrument vendors and
advanced process control and optimisation companies.
One Studentship is associated with a new Foresight LINK award involving
K.J. Metrics, BICC GENERAL and Hyperlast. The focus of the research will
be in the area of company financial and business data exploration and
modelling using multivariate statistical and time series techniques.
Candidates interested in this position should have degree qualifications
and skills in statistics or applied mathematics. They should be able to
demonstrate good communication skills.
The second PhD studentship will be a CASE Award in collaboration with
Johnson Mathey. The focus of the research will be in the area of
multivariate statistical process control and manufacturing performance
monitoring. Candidates interested in this position should have degree
qualifications and skills in Chemical and Process Engineering or Process
Chemistry. They should be able to demonstrate good communication skills and
be willing to work for periods at Johnson Mathey sites in the UK.
The successful candidates will join an internationally acknowledged
multi-disciplinary research team comprising 6 Postdoctoral Research staff
and 12 PhD students working alongside Dr Elaine Martin and Professor Julian
Morris. The PhD Studentships will have University Fees paid and a
maintenance stipend of up to £10,000 per year, reflecting the industrial
collaborative nature of their research programme.
