The Conference
The annual conference of PSI (Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry) will take place this year from Sunday 5th to Wednesday 8th September at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton. As with previous years, there is a varied program of invited speakers, sessions on special topics and contributed papers. Details on how to get the full program later, but here is a brief summary of the major aspects of the conference
Speakers
Invited speakers are Robert Curnow (Reading University), Frank Rockhold (SmithKline Beecham), Karen Facey (MCA), Richard Kay (S-Cubed Parexel), Rosemary Bailey (Queen Mary and Westfield College), Anne Wiles (Quintiles) and Trevor Lewis (Pfizer).
There will also be a panel discussion on 'Biostatistics: Is it, can it be, should it be a profession?' Chaired by Stephen Senn, the panel will consist of Tony Greenfield, Elliot Brown, David Morgan and Andy Grieve.
Parallel Sessions
A feature of the conference is the choice of parallel sessions, where topics can be dealt with in slightly more depth. This year sessions have been arranged on:- Statistical computing - Life Beyond SAS; Equivalence; Case Studies; Frequentist vs. Bayes; PK/PD; Health Economics.
Contributed Papers
Fifteen contributed papers, with authors from within the industry and from academia, on a wide range of statistical subjects will also be presented.
Entertainment and Exhibition
The Monday evening will take the form of a Race Night Dinner, with a competition for the best Fancy Dress Hat.
The Tuesday evening is the Conference dinner, with a dress code of Jacket and Tie
Throughout the conference delegates will have access to an Exhibition, with stands from software companies, CROs and other companies with an interest in Biostatistics.
The Cost
The basic cost of the conference for members of PSI, including all meals, refreshments, entertainment and single room occupancy from Sunday 5th to Wednesday 8th September, is £595 pounds + VAT if registration is received by 5pm on Friday 8th July. Registrations following that date will be charged £685 pounds + VAT. A £50 pound supplement is payable for non-members.
Conference attendees who wish to share a room may do so at a reduced cost of £530 pounds + VAT if registering by 8th July, or £610 pounds + VAT after that date.
There is also an academic rate for single room occupancy of £300 pounds + VAT.
