Medical Statistician
CTSU is one of the best-known medical research units in the world.
Its work chiefly involves studies of the causes of chronic diseases,
such as cancer, heart attack and stroke and the effects of different
treatments for them.
An opportunity has arisen for a medical statistician to join the team
responsible for the systematic review of the worldwide evidence on
the effectiveness of treatments for breast cancer. This "overview"
is a very large project involving more than 400 separate randomised
trials. It has already produced uniquely reliable findings as to
which treatments really are effective and which are not and these
findings are helping guide the treatment of hundreds of thousands of
women with breast cancer. We are looking for a bright and
enthusiastic statistician with good computing skills to help with a
new phase of this project and with other studies in CTSU. The
appointee will work closely with Professor Sarah Darby but should
also be capable of working independently
Applicants should have a statistical qualification or relevant
experience. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
are essential. Extensive computing experience is desirable, for
example using STATA, S-Plus, SAS, C, Fortran or Ingres.
The appointment will be for three years in the first instance.
Benefits include some flexible working hours, University pension
scheme, generous holidays (30 days plus public holidays), and access
to the University's sports and social facilities.
