Third Annual BEYOND THE FORMULA
A Statistics Conference for
Mathematics Teachers Teaching Introductory Statistics
August 5 & 6, 1999
Monroe Community College, Rochester, New York
This years focus:
"How modern technology is effecting the teaching and learning of
statistics,
and how this technology can best be incorporated into the classroom."
The agenda will include:
1. Two addresses by keynote speaker Robin Lock, St. Lawrence University,
2. Two real world case studies: presentations by statisticians,
demonstrating the usefulness of the type of statistics found in a
typical introductory statistics course,
3. Many hands-on computer (web and software) and calculator sessions,
4. Several sessions encompassing curriculum issues, and classroom
teaching strategies,
5. Dinner and an after-dinner speaker,
6. Publisher's Book Exhibit
Speakers include: Gordon Black, Harris Black International; Rick
Cleary, Cornell;
George Cobb, Mt. Holyoke; Patty Cyr, Eastman Kodak; Robert Heckard,
Penn State;
David Mathiason, RIT; Roxy Peck, Cal Poly; J. Laurie Snell, Dartmouth;
Lori Thombs, U of SC
Thursday's program begins at 8:30 AM and friday's program ends at 3:30
PM.
Registration Fee: $125, which includes 5 meals for participant

as the rates listed are "special rates." Rates shown are as quoted for
our
conference and are good for reservations made prior to the cutoff date.
After the cutoff date, room availability and rates are no longer

manager about it when you register. Due to other functions being held in
the
area, August 4-8, 1999, you may want to make your reservations as soon as
possible.
Cab service to and from the airport to any of the motels listed or to MCC

approximately $8.00; those motels having a free shuttle service are
noted.
There are many restaurants and a large mall area within the immediate
area

Be sure to bring your own tax-exempt form, otherwise you will need to pay
the taxes, too.
