Analysis of oro-facial malformation in infants
RA1A scale 16,286 - 24,479
A major grant has been awarded by the Chief Scientist's Office of
the Scottish Office to the Departments of Oral Surgery, Computing
Science and Statistics at the University of Glasgow. The aim of
the study is to record the extent of deformity in cleft lip and/or
palate children and to monitor the effects of surgery over the
first two years of life. Comparisons will also be made with a group
of control children. A simple but highly accurate three-dimenensional
facial capture system is available through the work of the Turing
Institute, a company associated with the University. The project is
also closely associated with the Faraday Partnership located in the
Department of Computing Science. The project will involve interesting
statistical problems of shape measurement and modelling. There will
be close collaboration with the other Departments involved. Funding
is available for two years. Applications which propose part-time
working over a longer period are particularly welcome.
Applicants should have, or should shortly expect to obtain, a Ph.D.
in Statistics and should have a strong interest in computing. Applications
should be in the form of a c.v. and covering letter and should be received
by July 15th. Applications and any enquiries, should be directed to:
