Medical Statisticians (3)
The Diabetes Research Laboratories is seeking three statisticians to join
the teams working on the Fasting Hyperglycaemia Study (FHS), the
Appropriate Care of Type 2 Diabetes (post UKPDS) Study (ACT2) and in a
study of Diabetes in Families (DIF). The Fasting Hyperglycaemia Study was
set up to examine the therapeutic approaches currently available for the
treatment of pre-diabetes in 201 subjects within a 6 year study period.
The data collected over the 6 years has covered a wide range of
biochemical, physiological, genetic and health-related variables. The
Appropriate Care of Type 2 Diabetes Study is a new general practice based
study looking at a number of treatments for diabetes and the risk factors
associated with diabetes. The Diabetes in Families study is a large scale
study of siblings of Type 2 diabetic probands examining the familial
nature of the disease and of potential genetic influences.
Three statisticians Grade RS1A/1B salary range £15,735 - £24,591,
according to age and experience, are required to join the team currently
in post (2 senior statisticians, together with clerical and programming
support). The statistician working on the FHS will be required to analyse
the end of study data. The statistician appointed for ACT2 will be
involved in the initial study planning and design and the post for DIF
will evaluate quantitative traits in the families. There are excellent
network computing facilities in the department and most analyses use SAS
on the Oxford University Computing Service Unix-based machine. Experience
in handling large data sets would be advantageous.
Please send your application, with a copy of your CV and the names of two
