CHAIR IN STATISTICS
VICTORIA UNIVERSITY OF WELLINGTON
SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICAL & COMPUTING SCIENCES
The University invites nominations, expressions of interest, and
applications for the Chair in Statistics in the School of Mathematical
and Computing Sciences. The post will become available in early 2000
following the retirement of Professor David Vere-Jones.
The University wishes to appoint an individual with an excellent
mathematical background and a substantial record of research and
leadership. The successful candidate should also possess a strong
commitment to teaching and innovation in teaching.
The School includes the disciplines, Computer Science, Mathematics,
Operations Research and Statistics. The appointee will be expected to
build a distinctive research team centred in the Statistics Group to
complement the extremely successful Mathematics Group. He/she will
demonstrate an ability to foster interdisciplinary research partnerships
within the School, and a willingness to seek competitive research grants
outside it. Present research strengths of the School include Point
Processes, Information Theory, Bayesian Methods, Computability and
Complexity Theory, Discrete Mathematics, and Biometrics.
