Potential students may wish to know that funding is available from the European
Social Fund (ESF) for a number of students on the one-year full-time MSc course
in DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS at the University of Sunderland. The funding covers
payment of course fees and a bursary (1999 value 80 pounds per week). Further
information on the course and on the eligibility criteria for the funding are
given at:
http://osiris.sunderland.ac.uk/~cs0mfa/dss.html
Brief details of the course are as follows.
The M.Sc. course in Decision Support Systems in full-time mode consists of
taught modules followed by a project and takes one year. The taught modules are:
* "Simulation of Dynamic Systems" (system dynamics models),
* "Analysis of Dynamic Systems",
* "Modelling with Probability" (Bayesian statistics, decision theory, time
series and forecasting),
* "Discrete Event Simulation for Decision Support",
* "Management Science" (network algorithms, queues, reliability and renewals),
* "Manufacturing Intelligence" (expert systems).
Assessment of the taught modules is largely by "miniprojects" done during the
course. The final project is usually done in conjunction with a placement during
the summer. All modules are accredited in a Credit Accumulation and Transfer
Scheme.
