Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for recommendations for "a
textbook containing a comprehensive listing of nonlinear models and their
applications to appropriate scientific/chemical/biological situations,
together with a decent level of statistical coverage".
As there was a lot of interest in the outcome I summarize the replies below -
The most recommended as classic (complete) texts in the field were :-
Nonlinear Regression - Seber & Wild, Wiley
Nonlinear Regression Analysis and its Application - Bates & Watts, Wiley
- although, in answer to my query, they were considered too theoretical or
possibly short on models by some.
Also recommended by several for application of many models ("very practical",
"may be lacking in theory", etc.) were :-
Handbook of Nonlinear Regression Models - Ratkowsky, Marcel Dekker
Nonlinear Regression Modelling - Ratkowsky, Marcel Dekker
The remaining books on the suggested list were :-
Models in Biology: Mathematics, Statistics and Computing - Brown & Rothery,
Wiley
Nonlinear Estimation - Ross, Springer
Statistical Tools for Nonlinear Regression - Huet, Bouvier, Gruet & Jolivet,
Springer
Nonlinear Statistical Models - Gallant, Wiley
Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models - Davidian & Giltinan
? - Vonesh & Chinchilli
Transformation and Weighting in Regression - Carroll & Ruppert, Chapman and
Hall
The SAS and Genstat manuals are also considered quite helpful.
Regards,
Roger Moore
