Lecturer in Statistics (Psychosis Research Group)
Department of Psychiatry
Applications are invited for the above post within a team of clinical and
non-clinical researchers working on the causes of schizophrenia and other
forms of psychosis. The post will be under the supervision of Professor
Robin Murray (Head of Department of Psychiatry), and Dr Pak Sham (Reader in
Psychiatric and Statistical Genetics). The post holder will have honorary
membership of the Department of Biostatistics and Computing, headed by
Professor Brian Everitt.
The successful candidate will work closely with members of the group,
providing statistical expertise in both the design of studies and the
management and analysis of data. The research will cover a wide area,
including genetics, epidemiology, neuropsychology and brain imaging. The
post holder will be part of a thriving community of research statisticians
at the Institute of Psychiatry.
The applicant should have a higher degree in statistics and be experienced
in applying sophisticated statistical methods to large data sets. Knowledge
of psychiatry is not essential, but an interest in medical research would
be important. Expertise in a wide range of statistical packages such as
SPSS, SAS, BMDP, STATA, MLN and SPLUS would also be desirable.
Starting salary in the range £19,372 pa to £24,713 pa (inclusive of £2,134
pa London Allowance).
