The Social Statistics Section of the Royal Statistical Society is holding an evening meeting on Tuesday 19th 1999 from 5pm-7pm at the RSS, 12 Errol Street, London EC1 (Barbican and Moorgate are the nearest underground stations).
CRIMIINAL CAREERS
Patrick Collier, Ricky Taylor, John MacLeod (The Home Office)
Criminal careers research relates to the growing interest in 'what works' in reducing offending and the expansion of outcome orientated evaluation research under the Crime Reduction Programme.
The presentation will describe the Home Office Offenders Index, including discussion of the ways in which the Home Office have used reconviction predictors to evaluate programmes and construct performance indicators.
The development and use of the Offender Group Reconviction Scale and other reconviction predictors will be presented.
Results of model fitting of criminal careers to Offenders Index cohort data will be described. This model has been used successfully in a prisons population projection system.
