We may ultimately explore this as a consequence of
a new student record system (Dolphin).

Yes - for some students

Undergrad 1st years (UK only), f/t MBA and PGCE
>
> 2c. What are the benefits/pitfalls of using this method?
> Benefits: cuts queues at registration by very much reducing
the number of students who have to have photos taken; has
reduced number of card production stations needed.
Pitfalls: no major ones so far (obviously relies on new
students sending photos in on time).
> 2d. How long have you been using this method?
This Sept/Oct was first year for large numbers after trial in 1997.
>
> 2e. What type of software do you use?
SYSIS photocapture units and printers
>
> 2f. If no, at what stage in the enrolment process are student
> photographs taken for the production of ID Cards?
n/a

> 3. POSTAL ENROLMENT
>
> 3a. Do you presently enrol any students by post?
Yes
>
> 3b. If yes, for which groups of students (all, postgrad new
> entrant, undergrad continuing, etc.)
All returning students
>
> 3c. What are the benefits/pitfalls of using this method?
Has eased congestion/delays at registration. Unreturned forms have
to be chased. Not all information (e.g. residential addresses for
the coming academic year) is available when forms are completed.
>
> 3d. How long have you been using this method?
Summer 98 was 3rd year
