We tell applicants that we don't yet know the fee but give
them the current year's fee 'for guidance'. The most
annoying aspect of the delay in receiving this info is the
extra cost we will incur in having to write again to all
those applicants who will be holding offers. The later we
get the info, the more applicants we'll have to write to.
There are also resource implications in terms of staff time
wasted answering phone calls from applicants asking for
fee rates which we can't give them, who will just keep on
phoning until we have the answer.
I'm going to suggest to our VC that he approach CVCP to
lobby EPSRC for an earlier decision. Perhaps we should all
do the same.
