Dear Colleague
I have a hunch that this query might have been aired
recently. If so, apologies; and would some kind soul direct
me to the recipient of all the answers.
My question relates to what charges, if any, Universities
make to graduands and/or guests that are unavoidable,
apart, of course, from the hire of academic dress.
In particular, does any University charge for any of the
following: car-parking; tickets for the ceremony for
student and/or guest(s); programmes; refreshments at
departmental or Faculty receptions?
For the record, at Southampton, the only mandatory charge
is for the hire of academic dress. Tickets and programmes
are gratis, as are refreshments provided after the ceremony
by departments. There is a charge for such other
optional services as: use of a park and ride scheme
(introduced for the first time in July); purchase of video
and/or studio photographs; purchase of tee-shirt and
similar memorabilia; purchase of refreshments over and
above those provided at departmental receptions; use of
childcare service; and cost of overnight accommodation in a
hall of residence.
To avoid clogging up the system, I would be glad if
responses could be sent direct to me.
Many thanks
Robert Green
