The regulations changed this year so that LEAs only pay GBP 500 regardless of
whether the student is studying or working. HEFCE has provided some
compensation for this in the block grant.

Subject: language year abroad fees
Dear all,
My interpretation of the current fee regulations is that the fee for
students on a language year abroad is £500 if the student is in
employment for the year, but otherwise is £1000. However, our
Fees Office tell me that some LEAs are only prepared to pay £500
regardless of whether the student is employed or not.
Have I interpreted the fee regulations correctly and if so, has
anyone else experienced the same problem with LEAs ?
Many thanks
Hilary
