The University College is considering a wide-ranging review of many
aspect of Boards and Committees and would welcome information from other
institutions, particularly any which have recently undertaken something
similar and from any who feel their comittee structures and operations
function well.
The main aims would be
to reduce the time spent at meetings, if possible
to ensure that time spent is worthwhile (structured) and results in
appropriate action
to re-inforce clear communication between decision-taking bodies and
management/action takers
to ensure appropriate staff development for committee officers and
members.
It would also be helpful if anyone could refer me towards a source of
reference providing definitions of categories of membership (eg
co-opted, ex officio) and differences between committees and sub
committees.)
