Marie,
The policy at Lincoln University is that any student whose mother
tongue is not English may use a dictionary in exams. Students
provide theri own dictionaries and no restriction is placed on
content, so long as it is a genuine dictionary. They are required to
submit their dictionaries to the Examinations Office at least 7 days
before the exam session commences for staff to inspect them. The
dictionaries are labeled with students' names and exams, dates and
locations (completed by the students). These dictionaries are then
despatched to exam rooms with exam materials for each exam indicated.
Students may not take them away with them between exams, only after
final exam.
Electronic dictionaries are prohibited because it is too difficult
these days to distinguish between those which can and those which
cannot be programmed, particularly if they are in Japanese etc!
