According to an informal conversation I have had with Jersey, the idea of
bringing fees and funding into line with mainland students has run into
difficulties (I'm not sure of what kind). However, regardless of this
there are three issues for us:
1. The notification of fee levels is always unnacceptably late (ten days
before courses started here last year). I have just drafted next year's fee
advice, as ever without an Island rate. Given the apparent effect of the
recent uproar about postgraduate rates, is there a way of putting similar
pressure on this particular decision making mechanism?
2. the DfEE rates refer to funding subject groups which do not apply in
Scotland and which, in the majority of cases this year have resulted in a
drop in fee income compared with rates charged last year.
3. Our understanding is that the DfEE rates are "recommended" rates - I
would be interested to hear from any institution that charges a different
rate (email me direct please at [log in to unmask])
