Liz,
Don't know about the option/right/facility but the recent draft QAA
Guidelines on Complaints certainly 'advises' that institutions have an
'independent' person/body to whom students can go if they are dissatisfied
with the outcome of a complaint.

Subject: The Visitor
Do any of the post 92 universities have the option/right/facility to appoint
a Visitor? I have a solicitor who swears me blind that DMU should be able
to appoint a Visitor to make a judgement in her client's dispute with us or
alternatively that the Lord Chancellor will appoint one for us cos other
post 92 universities can/do. I'm no lawyer but is her client getting dodgy
advice?
