Dear Colleagues,
This is directed at those members of staff who deal with
examinations and assessments.
We are currently reviewing some of our reassessment practices,
and I would like to get a feel for how other institutions tackle certain
issues. I would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to
answer the two questions below. Please reply directly to me, to
save inundating the list.
1. Who in your institution is responsible for sending
coursework and essay titles for reassessed work to students over
the summer period (i.e., academic departments, or Registry or its
equivalent)?
2. If, after reassessment, a student is left with only one
module/unit failure, do you allow such students to progress into the
next level of study, and be reassessed a further time in the
module/unit at the lower level (e.g, before Christmas)? Or do
students have to pass all modules at the lower level before they
can attend at the higher level?
I am very grateful for your time in considering this message. If
anyone can point me in the direction of previous discussions on
these matters, it would be equally appreciated.
With thanks,
Paul Clark
