Dear Members
I am a researcher in the Faculty: The Center for Higher
Educaiton Development at the University of Cape Town
and I would greatly appreciate your assistance with a
survey I am doing.
I am trying to find case studies of
universities/faculties/departments who use a rotational
(cyclical) timetable. This simply means that you assign
a number to each actual teaching day in the university
calender and lecturers schedule their lectures
accordingly for example students would attend
Anthropology 1 on Day 1 of the First Term regardless of
whether Day 1 is a Monday, a Wednesday or a
Thursday.
I believe this system has been used with varying
success in primary and senior schools but haven't
heard of it being used specifically in universities.
We are particularly interested in it as we believe it may
assist us in reducing the problems which arise due to
existing public holidays and the prospect of further ones
arising. This causes great confusion in terms of
lecturers being able to schedule and complete curricula
and students actually attending lectures. We are
optimistic that It will also impact on the structure and
weighting of teaching and research organisation in the
institution and assist us in ensuring quality.
I would be most grateful if any of you are willing to
provide me with examples.
Many thanks in anticipation and best wishes
Kate
