The recent HEFCE publication entitled "Public resources for teaching
and student numbers in HEFCE-funded institutions: 1998-99" has just
crossed my desk.
Colleagues should take a long hard look at page 86 onwards showing
resource comparisons.
HEFCE have recalculated the resources for the whole sector, and this
table show the difference for each instituion between the assumed
resource and the standard resource using the new data for 1998-99.
The important point to note is that the percentage differences are NOT
necessarily the values provided in the most recent Funding Agreements.
At JMU we thought we were positioned at +1.5% only to discover from
this new document that we are now apparently at +3.1%. Other
institutions may also be surprised (and shocked) at their values!!
How on earth are we supposed to plan against a moving target!! It is as
bad as trying to count students accurately!
